Catherine O'Hara was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1954. She started her comedy career in 1974 as a cast member of The Second City improv troupe in her hometown of Toronto. In the late 1970's, O'Hara provided voice-overs for a number of cartoons, which she continues to do throughout her career. She appeared in the 1976 television film, The Rimshots, and the children's series, Coming Up Rosie for a year. The performances on SCTV earned her fame in Canada and she continued to both act and write with SCTV and SCTV Network 90 for years, eventually earning an Emmy Award for outstanding writing and two additional Emmy Award nominations.

During the 1990s, she made guest appearances on Tales from the Crypt, Oh Baby, Morton & Hayes, and The Larry Sanders Show. She served as both actress and director on Dream On and The Outer Limits (which was a revival of the Sixties series).

O'Hara has been a guest star on television series including Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm and the ABC dramedy, Good Behavior.

She has had an equally successful career in film. She made her feature debut in 1980 with the film, Double Negative, which she started in with her SCTV co-stars, John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Joe Flaherty. She went on to have over two decades of success in movies, notably Home Alone (1 and 2), Frankenweenie, Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman and A Mighty Wind.

Personal Life: In 1992 Catherine married production designer Bo Welch. They met during the filming of Beetlejuice in 1988. He was the film's production designer. They have two sons, Matthew and Luke. Catherine was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame on June 9, 2007. Catherine O'Hara is a naturalized US citizen.
